Supporting Restoration at Large Loss with Drying and Power in Oklahoma
During a period of extreme cold in Oklahoma, a pipe break at a multi story residential building caused water to spread rapidly through more than six floors. The restoration contractor responded quickly, but the size of the loss required additional drying capacity and temporary power to address conditions throughout the structure.
Garrett McKenzie was called to help scale the response and support mitigation across multiple levels.
The Situation
Freezing temperatures led to a pipe failure that allowed water to travel vertically through the building, impacting several occupied floors. The restoration team began mitigation immediately, but drying such a large area required additional equipment and reliable power to operate it.
Without added support, addressing the loss across all affected floors would have taken significantly longer.
The Response
Garrett McKenzie was initially contacted to provide temporary power. After further evaluation on site, large scale desiccant dehumidification was added to strengthen the drying strategy throughout the building.
Equipment sizing, placement, and logistics were coordinated directly with the restoration team to allow fast delivery despite snow and freezing weather conditions.
The Execution
Desiccant dehumidifiers, a generator, cable, and ducting were delivered that evening while winter weather continued. Equipment was staged and connected, and the drying system was underway soon after arrival.
With temporary power established and additional drying capacity in place, restoration crews were able to work simultaneously across multiple floors.
The Result
The equipment remained on site for nearly a week while mitigation progressed. Added drying support allowed crews to stabilize the structure and meet drying goals efficiently.
Once moisture readings confirmed completion, the rental equipment was removed and the project moved forward into the next phase of restoration.
