Emergency Power and Heating for Building During Restoration in Illinois
During a deep freeze in the Midwest, a pipe break occurred at an older building in Illinois that had been converted from a residence into a retail space. The building suffered water damage, lost power, and required immediate restoration mitigation and climate control. The responding restoration team contacted Garrett McKenzie for emergency heating, temporary power, and electrical distribution to support recovery efforts.
The Situation
Extreme cold conditions contributed to a pipe break inside an older retail structure in Illinois. Following the break, the building was left without power and heat, creating unsafe conditions for restoration work.
The restoration contractor required generator power, electrical distribution, and portable heating so mitigation could begin quickly and crews could work safely inside the building.
The Response
The call came in late in the day as temperatures continued to drop. The Garrett McKenzie team quickly coordinated equipment selection and mobilized power and heating resources.
All required equipment was assembled, loaded, and dispatched while daylight was fading and cold conditions intensified. Rapid response was critical to stabilizing the structure and supporting the restoration timeline.
The Execution
Upon arrival, the generator and fuel cell were placed outside the building. Power cable was run from the generator to the interior, where the distribution panel and heaters were staged.
Two upright heaters were positioned on each floor of the structure. Once the generator was powered on, heating equipment was activated to create a safe and workable environment for restoration crews operating in freezing temperatures.
The Result
With temporary power and heating in place, the restoration team was able to work long days and maintain steady progress. After nearly one week, the building was dry and stable, and all equipment was taken off rent by a satisfied contractor.
Power, distribution, and heating support helped accelerate recovery and return the retail space to normal conditions.
