Emergency Drying, Heating & Generators at Michigan Hotel After a Pipe Break
During a cold northern Michigan winter, a hotel nearing completion experienced a sudden pipe break that sent water throughout the building. Restoration crews responded quickly and contacted Garrett McKenzie to provide emergency drying, temporary heat, and generator power to stabilize the property and prevent further damage.
The Situation
Freezing temperatures caused a significant pipe break inside a nearly completed hotel. Water traveled through multiple parts of the building and created an urgent need for drying and power support. A restoration contractor arrived on site and immediately reached out to Garrett McKenzie for large-scale drying equipment, temporary power, and heating to protect the structure and keep the project moving toward completion.
The Response
The call came in late in the day. Within minutes, Garrett McKenzie began assembling equipment and preparing trucks to mobilize. A semi hauler attached the First Response trailer while another truck was loaded with heaters, a generator, ducting, lay-flat, and cable. Both trucks left that evening and traveled through winter weather to arrive as soon as possible.
The Execution
The GM team reached the area shortly after midnight and rested briefly before arriving on site at daybreak. Technicians then staged the 15,000 CFM desiccant dehumidifier, two 150 kW heaters, and two generators. With the First Response trailer pre-loaded, crews focused on connecting ducting, placing lay-flat throughout the interior, and powering additional restoration equipment. The drying and heating system was fully operational shortly after setup began.
The Result
Drying and heating equipment operated around the clock for nearly two weeks. By the end of the rental period, the building was confirmed dry and stable, allowing construction work to continue without schedule disruption. The property was protected from additional damage thanks to the fast response and large-scale support provided by Garrett McKenzie.
