Opening a new business comes with risk. If you’ve been in this position before, you understand the creeping anxiety that grows as opening day approaches. After the first week, your nerves typically settle and you fall into routine. But what happens when unexpected damage occurs just weeks into opening your doors?
Shortly after the new restaurant opened, multiple sewer backups in the kitchen caused contaminated water to spread into the dining room. The management utilized their crew to perform the sewage cleanup services to the best of their ability, however the damage was exponential and out of the range of their expertise. That is where our team came into play.
Unbeknownst to the management and crew, the sewage contamination began to seep into wall cavities and hidden areas not visibly accessible during initial and day–to–day cleaning. With multiple sewage backups, the damage began to migrate throughout the restaurant forcing the business to close their doors and lose out on revenue.
Several remediation contractors were brought in to mitigate the damages and decontaminate mold and bacteria. Due to their lack of experience, both remediation contractors worsened contamination, expanding the remediation protocol throughout the entire restaurant due to the extreme cross contamination.
Garrett McKenzie was contracted to discreetly remediate the entire structure of the restaurant.
We established environmental controls within the restaurant to contain and segregate each critical area from further contamination. We evaluated the bacteria and mold in each area and developed a plan for successful remediation. The rampant spread of contamination required extensive environmental cleanup and every surface within the structure required remediation.
A lot of work was needed to bring this building back in to working order, but our team was able to complete it in a timely manner.
